What’s new in Shroud

Shroud 1.2.2 (19)
Remove workaround for OS X 10.11 El Capitan issue which caused Shroud to be unable to place its backdrop as expected; it is fixed as of OS X 10.11.3. Use SSL to retrieve Shroud’s appcast and update Sparkle to address a Sparkle security vulnerability. Use SSL for crash reporting.

Shroud 1.2.1 (18)
Note: This version requires OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or later, including OS X 10.9 Mavericks and 10.10 Yosemite. Shroud 1.2 is the last version to support Mac OS X 10.6 and OS X 10.7. Fix Shroud’s Dock icon not matching the selected backdrop color when Shroud is opened. Fix toggling Shroud not working in OS X 10.10. Work around an issue in OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta which caused Shroud to be unable to place its backdrop as expected. Update Developer ID code signing for Apple’s changes to Gatekeeper in OS X 10.10, 10.9.5 and Security Update 2014-004 to OS X 10.8.5.

Hide or show Shroud’s backdrop with a keyboard shortcut. Focus on the frontmost window in OS X 10.8. Eliminate flashing when focusing on the frontmost window or application (not entirely in Mac OS X 10.6, however). Try to ensure Shroud’s Preferences appears in front of the backdrop in more cases. Fix an issue where the “Cover menu bar” checkbox in Shroud’s Preferences did not match reality when Shroud was first run. Fix Shroud becoming visible if it was hidden when you exit from full-screen mode if you had “Cover menu bar” checked. Update crash reporter (the service I was using to receive crash reports is no longer operating). Sign with Developer ID for Gatekeeper on OS X Mountain Lion (10.8).

Fix Shroud’s menu bar-covering window getting stuck on a different Space from the rest of Shroud when exiting full-screen mode. Work around an issue where other Shroud windows can end up beneath its backdrop when switching to a Space containing Shroud (Mac OS X 10.6 only).

Shroud 1.1.1 (11)
Work around an OS X bug which caused Shroud’s menu bar-covering window to briefly move into the middle of the screen when you show or hide the Dock. Attempt to fix Shroud’s menu bar-covering window getting stuck on a different Space from the rest of Shroud.

This lets you view the menu bar clock, battery status, etc., while keeping your hands on the keyboard. Select keys to use in Shroud’s Preferences. Hide the menu bar if you somehow manage to move your mouse outside the menubar with a menu pulled down within 0.1 seconds of entering it.

Focus is now Shroud (the name “Focus” was already in use). Automatic updating with Sparkle. Automatic crash reporting with SFBCrashReporter.

Make focusing on an application work if Focus was hidden. Make Focus respond to Option-clicks on the backdrop when first launched. Add a Help book which automatically opens on first launch.
